Learning Differences

Many of my clients come to me through referrals from neuropsychologists or school learning specialists. Often children have just received a diagnosis of a learning disability and parents are eager to find support for their child with ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, or any written language disorder. The bulk of my clients struggle with attention, and language processing disorders, as well as diagnosed anxiety and/or depression. Many are considered twice exceptional students, gifted, with learning challenges. Though a diagnosis may feel overwhelming, I believe that with the correct intervention students can thrive in academic settings and excel in school.

Enrichment

I work with students who wish for greater exposure to writing. Some love to write and feel they need an outlet beyond what school provides. Others find themselves in need of some additional support in keeping up with especially rigorous academic standards. Students in honors and AP English classes benefit from one-on-one instruction to do the intense abstract work of analyzing literature or writing long papers or reports.

College Essays & Admissions

Applying for college is often an immense task. I help students in all steps of the process: identifying schools to apply for, working on the application process, planning timelines, project deadlines, and crafting strong admission essays. The college essay is an important part of many applications and requires both a narrative and analytical understanding of writing. Helping students mine their experiences, hone their belief systems, and get it all on paper in under 500 words is a creative undertaking (that can even be fun).

I also work with students preparing to take entrance exams to private middle and high schools.

Time management & organization

Many students struggle with time and material management. I help students organize binders, create spaces conducive to study, plan out long and short term assignments and projects, and break projects down into doable parts. We experiment with methods for overall organization at school and at home, trying to find the rhythm that works most effectively for each individual. These important executive function skills aid in schoolwork but also create lasting stategies for future success.

Adult Students

Completing coursework, dissertations, or articles for journals, many of my adult students seek assistance in the planning, drafting, editing, and revising stages. Others are looking for a creative outlet, which can be supported with weekly prompts and feedback in one-on-one sessions.

Professionals

Many of my adult clients are specialists in their field and have a brilliant book idea. They may not see themselves as "writers", however, and we work together to brainstorm ideas, plan the chapter content, and set up a system for writing that works into their lives. Once the book is drafted we work together to edit before the manuscript is sent to the publisher. This process works with both fiction and non-fiction projects.
